YEAH THE GIRLS!!

YEAH THE GIRLS!!

A valuable lesson was learnt on this particular weekend. Do not expect people to wake up after a footy grand final! 3 boats were supposed to leave the ramp on sunrise but instead only 1 made the event and the sun was well and truly up. As soon as we launched, it was obvious that the weather gods had looked after us and we were in for a beautiful day on the water. With glassed out conditions we headed towards one of our favourite spots to throw lures over a reef drop off. In the past we had encountered some unstoppable fish there and could not wait to give this place another crack. We gave the girls a few tips on working stick baits and gave them the first casts as we slowly drifted over the drop off. Within minutes, good sized GT's were showing interest but not committing. A few more casts brought in a double hook up, but not the species we were hoping for.

We swapped to poppers but could not raise a fish. Throwing in the towel, Boggsy switches to stick baits and instantly hooks up to a very legal trout. With all rods now loaded with sticks, it was game on!

There was 4 of us on the boat and always 3 lures in the water. It was only a matter of time until we found fish again. Many casts and several strikes later the Majestic stick bait is being shadowed by a large black shadow. This fish followed the lure until it was within 2 metres of the boat and decides to commit. A massive malabar cod strikes but somehow not a single hook finds home. It's amazing how much spirits are lifted from a single strike. Casts were more frequent and so were the fish, but still no size trevally. With this attitude it came as a massive surprise when Jenna's ASWB momentum was inhaled and dragged deep into the reef by a very large and angry GT! You can't win them all! Many fish were landed and a few came home with us, the girls had a ball and the weather was amazing. We went for a swim, had a few drinks and called it a day. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday! Enjoy the pics...
